Adult Program, Ages 18+
Have a story to tell? A novel idea waiting to be written?
Or maybe you’ve always wanted to try your hand at writing?
Join us for a Writer’s Workshop—taught by local authors: B.R. Curry and Christine Roberts!
This will be a welcoming space to share ideas, sharpen your skills, and connect with fellow writers. Whether you’re a seasoned author or just getting started, everyone is welcome!
Monday, September 28th – Writing Process, Organization, and Plotter vs. Pantser
This workshop explores the different approaches writers can use to develop and organize their work. Participants will examine the writing process and introduce the plotter vs. pantser approaches to writing.
Monday, October 19th – Character Development and Dialogue
This workshop explores the essential role of character development and dialogue in creating engaging, believable, and memorable stories by developing well-rounded characters with distinct personalities, motivations, goals, conflicts, strengths, and weaknesses.
Monday, November 16th – Tropes/architypes, Pacing and World Building
In this workshop, participants will learn how familiar story patterns and character archetypes can provide a foundation for developing original stories; examine pacing and how to build their fictional world, whether it’s realistic fiction, fantasy, science fiction, or other genres.
Monday, December 14th – Show vs. Tell and Descriptions
This program explores the important storytelling techniques of showing versus telling and effective description. Participants will learn how to engage readers by allowing them to experience characters, emotions, settings, and events rather than simply stating information.
