This month we will feature author Jayson Iwen. He will read selections from his most recent book publication, You Contain Multitudes, which presents readers with techniques, drawn from the practice of poetry, that can help us to recognize and reduce unconscious bias within ourselves, thereby improving our understanding of others, particularly those who might initially seem unfathomable to us.
Jayson Iwen is the author of six books of poetry and prose, including winners of the Emergency Press International Book Award and the Cleveland State University Ruthanne Wiley Memorial Novella Award. His book Roze & Blud, which won the 2022 Northeastern Minnesota Book Award for Poetry, also won the University of Arkansas Press Miller Williams Poetry Prize and was a finalist for The National Poetry Series. He has co-translated two books of Arabic poetry, one of which introduced the major Arabic poet Salim Barakat to English readers for the first time. That book, Come, Take a Gentle Stab, was a finalist for the 2022 Sarah Maguire International Poetry Translation Award.
Writer's Salon is a monthly gathering of writers and people who love the written word. Bring your own work to share, or the work of your favorite authors. There will be time for open mic and mingling. All genres welcome.
