Write Your Own Bristol Travel Adventure!

In this inspiring and practical session, Jai Breitnauer will guide you into creating your own comic book travel adventure about Bristol – or your local area. Prompted by the questions ‘where are you from’ (which suburb), ‘what is something you really like about where you live? (e.g. the park over the road), and ‘what is something interesting or mysterious around your area?’ (e.g. the abandoned house at the end of the street), Jai will then focus on what is something you really like about Bristol as a whole (e.g. street art).
After a brief chat about travel writing and what it is, you will work on a practical story development – a comic book travel guide to your area, designed for a friend who lives somewhere else. You’ll use a comic book base template, and some cut out shapes including people, places, and speech bubbles. Jai will encourage you to combine the key elements of storytelling – strong characters, clear location, plot and theme to tell a story about your area that shows off all the best bits.
This event is hands-on with lots of cutting, glueing, colouring etc, and a bit of writing, plus you can take your comic book home with you.
This event is ideal for 9 - 12 year olds.
