About this Event

This Saturday morning generative creative writing session will be hosted by novelist and literary critic, Martha Anne Toll, who will offer the inspirational framework for the event.

Session includes:

✨ A 10-minute creative prompt or reading

✍️ 90 minutes of dedicated writing time

🤝 20 minutes of optional sharing & reflection

Whether you're drafting a novel, journaling for clarity, or just trying to make time to write, this space is for you.

More about Martha: Martha Anne Toll is a novelist and literary and cultural critic. Her new novel, Duet for One, came out May 6, 2025 after generous pre-publication praise. Her debut novel, Three Muses, won the Petrichor Prize for Finely Crafted Fiction and was subsequently shortlisted for the Gotham Book Prize. Toll is a recipient of Fellowships from the Vashon Artist Residency [forthcoming], Virginia Center for the Creative Arts in Virginia and France, Monson Arts, and Dairy Hollow. She is a member of the National Book Critics Circle, and serves on the Board of Directors of the PEN/Faulkner Foundation. A graduate of Yale, Toll holds a B.A. Degree in Music, and her classical music training informs her artistic practice. She holds a J.D. Degree from Boston University School of Law, and comes to writing professionally after a career dedicated to social justice.

Toll has a particular interest in fiction that crosses artistic boundaries--dance, music, art, etc. She values Write Now sessions as an absolutely sacred and safe space, which writers can use to express themselves in ways they may feel too constricted to express under regular circumstances. She hopes that the writers in her hosting sessions experiment, take risks, go beyond their comfort zone, and do whatever floats their boat.

Write Now: Generative Creative Writing Sessions are held every Wednesday evening and Saturday morning for writers of all genres and levels. Drop in for a boost of inspiration, or come every week to build a consistent writing practice.
