On the misty evening of February 6, 1951, the residents along Fulton Street in Woodbridge Township were startled by a thunderous crash. Opening their doors, they were shocked to find the deadliest train wreck in New Jersey history on their front lawns...
What happened was self-evident from the mangled wreckage- the Pennsylvania Railroad's express commuter train known as "The Broker" had hit the curve onto a newly-opened, temporary track far too fast, sending cards cascading down the steep embankment into the street below. Why it happened, however, was the question.
Based on Gordon Bond's book, "Man Failure", this documentary by HFC Studios uses groundbreaking animation to analyze the physics of the disaster in ways even the investigators were unable to in 1951. Set against the human drama of survivors and victims alike, "Wreck of the Broker" creates an emotionally powerful experience of an event that still haunts the memories of the Jersey Shore communities it impacted.
