About this Event

🐝 Event Overview: Beeswax Food Wrap Workshop

Hosted by: Nelson Youth Council

Arrival Information

Please arrive at the Nayland College Reception (Front Office). A Nelson Youth Council volunteer will be there to welcome you and guide you to the workshop room.

We recommend arriving 5–10 minutes early to allow enough time for check-in before the workshop begins.

Join us for a fun, hands-on workshop where you'll learn how to make your own reusable beeswax food wraps while discovering how small lifestyle changes can make a big difference for the environment. This interactive event encourages people of all ages to reduce their reliance on single-use plastics and adopt sustainable alternatives they can use every day.

🌿 What to Expect

When attendees arrive, they'll be welcomed by Nelson Youth Council members and introduced to the purpose of the workshop. A short presentation will explain the environmental impact of plastic food wrap, how beeswax wraps work, and why reusable products are an important step toward a more sustainable future.

Participants will then move to workshop stations where they'll:

  • Choose from a variety of 100% cotton fabrics.
  • Learn about the ingredients used, including beeswax, pine resin, and coconut oil.
  • Watch a live demonstration before creating their own beeswax food wraps.
  • Leave with two handmade wraps and the knowledge to make more at home.

Throughout the event, the youth council members will be available to assist participants.

♻️ Why It Matters

Every reusable beeswax wrap can replace hundreds of pieces of single-use plastic wrap over its lifetime. By teaching this practical skill, the workshop helps reduce household waste, encourages environmentally friendly habits, and empowers the community to make simple but meaningful changes.

📍 Event Atmosphere

The workshop will have a welcoming and creative atmosphere with:

  • Hands-on activity stations
  • Friendly Youth Council members
  • Examples of finished beeswax wraps
  • opportunities to connect with others interested in environmental action
