About this Event

To develop knowledge and skills in the management of patients who require care of pressure ulcers. This course is practical and interactive and is suitable for all clinical staff.

A pressure ulcer (or bedsore/pressure sore) is skin and tissue damage from unrelieved pressure, often over bony areas, that cuts off blood supply, leading to redness, pain and potentially deep wounds reaching muscle or bone, often affecting those with limited mobility, and can be worsened by friction and shear. Prevention focuses on relieving pressure, while treatment involves wound care to heal damaged skin and underlying issures.

The couse will focus on:

  • Classification of Pressure Ulcer
  • Assessing Risk of Pressure Ulcer - Waterlow
  • Skin Assessment
  • Surfaces and devices to prevent Pressure Ulcer
  • Keep Moving - repositioning and off-loading
  • Nutrition in wound care
