A Service of Word based on Ezekiel 37:1-14 This week’s reading contains the most famous image from Ezekiel: the valley of dry bones. While it’s an image we might expect from a book written during the Babylonian Exile, what stands out is that God breathes new life into the bones. Why is it so important that God gave Ezekiel this vision, and what does it mean for our lives today?
Questions to Ponder
As you read this week’s scripture, try to picture what Ezekiel is seeing. How does Scripture paint the scene? As you read it, what are your feelings?
Why is God’s question in 37:3 so important? Why do you sense it would have been important for Ezekiel to speak over the bones? How about breathing into them?
How does God’s willingness to restore Israel even though she has abandoned him speak to the way God has restored believers to himself through Jesus Christ? How might this passage encourage you to not become overwhelmed by fear or doubt? How might it encourage you to try to see other members of the body of Christ as your family in Christ?
