Exciting opportunity for metallurgy students!Gears Mining (2024 Metallurgy Field Trip Sponsor) have so graciously invited us to their launch of the world's largest mill relining machine. Inside of a grinding mill there a liners which take the impact from the mill balls and ore. When these liners wear out, it is a serious task to replace them ASAP, as this can seriously affect the performance of the plant (mill not working = no product produced). I worked at a plant over the summer where our liner plates snapped off and it took two days to replace. We lost time to process 10,080 tonnes of ore! For this reason, it's extremely important to ensure the relining machinery is able to replace your mill liners as efficiently as possible.

This innovative machine sets a new global standard with a capacity of 8100kg, surpassing the previous record. The development of this machine is part of Gears' ongoing partnership with First Quantum Minerals.
