Ukrainian embroidery is an ancient and symbolic tradition that occupies a central place in Ukraine’s culture. The Vyshyvanka Day celebration was initiated in 2006 at Chernivtsi National University by a student Lesya Voronyuk and gradually became an International Day of Vyshyvanka. It is celebrated on the third Thursday of May. It unites Ukrainians all over the world, regardless of religion, or the language they speak. On this day, thousands of Ukrainians wear vyshyvankas (traditional embroidered shirts) to demonstrate their national identity and love for their country.
The Ukrainian people and Ukrainian culture have survived centuries of oppression. More than ever, the vyshyvanka continues to be a symbol of Ukrainian cultural resistance and pride.
Vyshyvanka is the spiritual armor of Ukrainians!
Ukraine is the armor that protects the entire world!
