World Giraffe Day at the Montgomery Zoo, Saturday, June 19. World Giraffe Day is an exciting annual event initiated by Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF) to celebrate the longest-necked animal at the Montgomery Zoo, and on the planet, Saturday, June 19. Here at the Montgomery Zoo, we celebrate these wonderful animals with a special day in hopes of bringing conservation efforts to the forethought of our guests minds. We also hope that we are able to provide our guests with a unique giraffe experience while raising funds to help giraffes in the wild. Not only is it a worldwide celebration of these amazing and much-loved animals, but also an annual event to raise support, create awareness. and shed light on the challenges giraffe face in the wild. In June 2018, the Montgomery Zoo celebrated its first World Giraffe Day. Our efforts allowed the Montgomery Zoo to contribute $500 aiding conservation efforts for giraffes in the wild. In 2019, we elevated our efforts and were able to raise nearly $1,000. By supporting World Giraffe Day, you directly help save giraffes in the wild, in Africa. With only approximately only 111,000 giraffes remaining in the wild, the time is right to act NOW! It is our goal that this year, we will be able to contribute over $2,000 to this very worthwhile cause. In 2020, we held a lot of our event online (virtually) due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Zoos, schools, NGOs, governments, institutions, companies and conservation organizations around the world are hosting events on or around June 21 every year to raise awareness and support for giraffe in the wild. At the Montgomery Zoo, in an effort to allow as many people as possible to participate, we celebrate World Giraffe Day on a Saturday, June 19.
DONATE TO SAVE GIRAFFES HERE AND IN AFRICA: Your contributions aid research and conservation efforts for giraffes here and in the wilds of Africa. We will be collecting funds for the entire month of June. All World Giraffe Day contributions will be accepted June 1-30. Thank you for your generous contribution.
