World Cancer Support Month with Gilda's Club Metro Detroit!

Join us this August at the Detroit Public Library as we recognize World Cancer Support Month by exploring the power of connection, education, and community.Learn about Gilda's Club Metro Detroit, a welcoming community where no one faces cancer alone. During this interactive presentation, you'll discover the organization's mission and the free programs available to individuals impacted by cancer including those diagnosed, their families, friends, and caregivers.Participants will also have the opportunity to experience mini sessions highlighting Gilda's Club Metro Detroit's five pillars of programming:
- Support Groups – Building meaningful connections through shared experiences
- Education – Empowering individuals with knowledge and practical tools
- Healthy Lifestyle – Promoting wellness through movement, nutrition, and self-care
- Social Activities – Creating moments of joy, creativity, and community
- Resources & Referrals – Connecting participants with trusted services and support
Whether you are personally affected by cancer, supporting a loved one, or simply interested in learning about community resources, this event offers a welcoming space to connect, engage, and discover how support can make a meaningful difference. Admission is free, and all are welcome.

Registration preferred, but walk-ins are always welcome! Free parking is available for event attendees in the DPL staff lot off Putnam from 5pm-8pm. (Please note that if you elect to park there, you must still enter the library from Cass or Woodward - you cannot use the staff entrance. See image below for reference; the blue shows the path you will take to get to the Cass entrance, the red shows the path for Woodward.)
