𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗘𝗫𝗣𝗘𝗖𝗧
1️⃣ BODY MOVEMENT WORKSHOPS
are suitable for anyone regardless of the prop they use, especially performers seeking to gain more body control, enhance their stage presence, and make their performances more captivating. The movement exercises take into account the unique kinetic qualities of each prop, focusing on developing a body language that enables artists to create choreographies together by exploring the connection between movement and geometry.
On Sunday, we will also explore jumps and the basics of acrobatics that can be integrated with flow arts props. No prior acrobatic experience is required, though knowing how to do a cartwheel is beneficial.
2️⃣ POI WORKSHOPS
will be focused on a dance-based approach to spinning, examining poi movement from its very core to more advanced moves by studying every move’s progression and looking for links between different trick families that can provide freedom of movement and expression. We will add elements of dance or even light acrobatics, finding ways to orientate within poi techniques without necessarily categorizing everything into tricks or trick families. As in all of Vojta’s workshops, we’ll focus on body posture, footwork, turns, and finding ways to perform tricks with more elegance and ease.
We’ll also dive into some of Vojta’s most characteristic moves — body tracing, pirouettes, tosses, under-the-leg tricks, and more!
3️⃣ STAFF WORKSHOPS
will focus on long staff spinning while allowing more contact moves and tosses to be implemented. According to Vojta, single staff is one of the most challenging tools to master because many tricks are relatively easy to execute, yet they leave plenty of space for movement with the rest of the body — parts often overlooked during tricks. Therefore, we’ll emphasize body posture, working with the empty hand, and mastering tricks that engage the entire body.
We’ll also focus on creating sequences and pauses, as well as learning moves that make single staff spinning a unique and engaging stage prop.
4️⃣ THE Q & A
part will be an opportunity for those who wish to learn a particular trick or have a concept or technique explained. We can also sit down and talk about creating acts, programming LED equipment, and other subjects related to performing and being a versatile artist.
