Class descriptions and bio:
About Rosangela.
Rosangela Silvestre is a choreographer, instructor, dancer and creator of the Silvestre Dance Technique. Silvestre, a native of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, graduated with a bachelor's and post- graduate degree in dance from the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA). She has researched dance and music in Brazil, India, Egypt, Senegal and Cuba as part of her ever-evolving and eclectic repertoire of movement. She trained in diverse techniques like Martha Graham, Limón, Horton, Floor Bar, Classic Ballet, Dunham Technique, and has performed and choreographed for a number of companies in Brazil and other countries.
Silvestre has traveled internationally teaching, training dancers, performing, facilitating lectures and demonstrations, consulting, attending seminars and residencies at universities and dance festivals in Contemporary, Folkloric, as well as traditional dances of Africa and other continents. In 2011, Silvestre completed an album called, "Voices of Nature." She continues to use her voice as an integral part of her work in dance.
Rosangela works with connections of symbologies that open ways and create possibilities to training through activation of the body intelligence and ancestral memories, that can bring revelations that empower the unique expression - movement, language, integrate contemporary ways of dances in communication with African Brazilian Culture.
Silvestre Technique.
The technique works to create a dialogue with the body that builds form and activates intention in personal expression, while staying connected to the energy centers of the body and elements of nature. Regardless of dance level or previous experience, each workshop will open possibilities for you to discover and experience intuition, expression, and balance.
Symbology of Orixás
We will dive into a channel of inspiration to experience the archetypal energies that we all have innate access to, and how experienced they are relationship to the elements of nature - Earth, Water, Air, and Fire. This class will use gestures and in traditional symbols of the Orixa dances for inspiration and discovery of archetypal expression. Allow yourself to discover and experience how sacred symbology inspires the body to dance and express through the traditional rhythms, archetypes and stories of the Orixas and the ancestral memory in the religion, culture and tradition, as inspiration and creativity in the African-Brazilian arts.
