Across three days, WA Poets Inc presents six focused workshops led by local and national poets and experienced facilitators. Move through collage, memoir, spoken word, performance, automatic writing and new ways of finding your voice on the page and stage.

FRIDAY 28 AUGUST
ALEX CREECE

HODGEPODGE POETRY WORKSHOP
Cut language apart and remake it.
Writer and visual artist Alex Creece leads a hands-on collage poetry workshop using found materials including magazines, advertisements and pamphlets. Explore how cutting, arranging and recombining existing language can generate surprising new poems and open up playful ways of working with words.

PERTH SLAM PERFORMANCE POETRY WORKSHOP!
Put the poem on its feet.
Veteran performance poet Allan Boyd, aka the antipoet, and the Perth Slam crew get into the practical craft of contemporary slam poetry.
Explore what makes a performance work, try creative writing exercises and develop microphone technique, breathing, gesture, posture, expression, timing and audience connection.
New poets, experienced poets and the slam-curious are all welcome. Bring a short poem if you have one and would like to work with it.
SATURDAY 29 AUGUST
OORMILA V. PRAHLAD

MEMOIR AS SPOKEN WORD
Turn lived experience into performance.
Oormila V. Prahlad explores how memory, identity and personal history can become compelling spoken word. Draw on culture, place, family and language while developing voice, rhythm, image, repetition, pacing and oral delivery.
Designed particularly for older poets, the workshop gives participants space to work with the depth of their own histories and begin shaping a new performance piece.
ENDER BAŞKAN

FIRST THOUGHT BEST THOUGHT
What happens when you stop second-guessing the poem?
Poet, novelist and publisher Ender Başkan draws on surrealist, Dadaist and Zen approaches to language play and automatic writing.
Trust intuition, loosen the grip of the inner critic and explore the possibilities that appear when you follow the first thought somewhere unexpected.
SUNDAY 30 AUGUST
EMILIE COLLYER

POETRY WHERE WE MEET THE WORLD
Hopeful. Overwhelmed. Angry. Moved by beauty.
Emilie Collyer explores poetry that begins where our inner lives encounter the world around us, including social, public and political pressures.
Read contemporary poetry, experiment with different techniques and generate new work in a warm, welcoming session designed to help you find new ways into your own voice.
