About the Workshops
WORKSHOPS of OkiNoWar WEEK is a two-day participatory program taking place at SAVVY Contemporary as part of OkiNoWar WEEK 2026 in Berlin.
Across 7–8 August 2026, artists and cultural practitioners from Okinawa will offer a series of intimate, hands-on workshops introducing participants to Okinawan artistic practices and living cultural traditions.
The program includes Calligraphy Workshops with Nanyō Unten, Lacquer & Raden Workshops with contemporary artist Hiroya and Aki Maeda, and a special Ryūkyūan Costume & Dance Experience, where participants can wear Ryūkyūan costume and learn traditional dance accompanied by live sanshin music and singing.

⚠︎Each workshop requires a separate ticket, so please check the date, time, and workshop title carefully and book the ticket for the workshop you would like to attend.
All workshops are designed for small groups, allowing participants to learn directly from artists and cultural practitioners, ask questions, work with materials, and experience Okinawan culture beyond simply watching a performance or exhibition.
The workshops are part of the wider Planetary YUI — Arts for Living Together program at SAVVY Contemporary, which brings together exhibitions, film screenings, talks, workshops, Ryūkyūan performing arts, live music, and collective gatherings.
Through making, wearing, listening, and moving together, the workshop program invites participants to encounter Okinawan culture as a living practice and to experience the spirit of YUI — connection, mutual support, and living together.
