Bossa Nova & Jazz – A Deep Musical Connection Diego Figueiredo is an internationally acclaimed Brazilian guitarist known for his virtuosic technique, expressive sound, and deep connection between Brazilian music and jazz. With a career spanning over 20 years, he has performed in more than 60 countries and collaborated with artists such as João Bosco, Gilberto Gil, Toquinho, Sergio Reis, and many others. Diego has performed at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall and has received multiple international awards, including a Grammy nomination. His music blends sophistication, groove, and lyricism, establishing him as one of the leading guitar voices of his generation.
This workshop explores the deep musical relationship between Brazilian Bossa Nova and Jazz, focusing on rhythm, harmony, technique, and creative arranging on the guitar.

Right-Hand Technique
Brazilian guitar relies heavily on right-hand independence. The thumb maintains bass and time, while fingers articulate harmony and melody. Groove, balance, and dynamics are essential.
Scales & Arpeggios
Scales and arpeggios are used as melodic tools, not mechanical exercises. Focus on melodic minor, major modes, and arpeggios of seventh chords and upper structures.
Arranging & Reharmonization
Jazz standards can be transformed using Brazilian rhythms such as bossa nova and samba.
Reharmonization techniques include secondary dominants, tritone substitutions, passing chords, and pedal points—always respecting the melody.
