Workshop: What Stays, What Goes: Finding the Story in Your Memoir

You have a lifetime of memories, and somewhere among them is the story your memoir wants to tell. Drawing on her experience as a memoirist, editor, and book coach, Oksana will guide you through an exploration of theme, emotional arc, and the person you’re becoming on the page to help you discover which stories belong together and shape them into a compelling whole.

Instructor: Oksana Marafioti is an award-winning Romani American writer, editor, and educator. She is the author of the memoir American Gypsy (FSG) and has published essays and creative nonfiction in TIME, The Rumpus, and the Los Angeles Times, among others. She is a recipient of fellowships from the Library of Congress (US), Picador (Germany), and the National Endowment for the Arts (US). Oksana works professionally as a book editor with writers worldwide. She teaches writing and literature at the university level and regularly presents workshops and lectures on storytelling, craft, and Romani representation. Her work is committed to amplifying Romani voices and narratives with nuance, depth, and care.
