Workshop: Vocals in Remixes

In today's world of productions, remixes are a big part of DJ's sets.

Whether it's using an already popular vocal to adjust it to a specific style/genre or taking an older song and putting it into a new perspective.

In this workshop, SAE's Head of the Electronic Music certificate will guide you through setting up a vocal for remix purposes. He will be making use of the studio acapella of a known artist and go over how to adjust the timing (BPM) and determine the key/variation in chords. Several aspects to consider when dealing with vocals that are already prepared (have processing on them from the original production) will also be discussed.

About the lecturer

Joost Stuursma is responsible for the Electronic Music Certificate over at SAE Amsterdam. For the past 10 years, he has done several ghost productions and established a production team with Belgium’s DJ Licious. Together they produced a series of house tracks including “Ibiza Sky”, “Hope” and "Voices" which is their most recent success. Joost brings his experience into the classrooms of SAE, helping students progress with music production. As ghost production is a much-discussed topic, he tries to relate his current situation to his students and how to approach the industry strictly from a producer's point of view.
