But taking the Bible seriously does not always mean taking every verse literally, at face value, or outside of its historical context.
Every time we read Scripture, we interpret it. We bring assumptions, translations, traditions, and cultural lenses with us. The Bible itself has been translated and re-translated, edited, compiled, and shaped across centuries, and throughout history it has been used for both liberation and harm.
This Unclobber Workshop is a one-day intensive designed to help participants explore how faithful Christians read Scripture in context, with humility, integrity, and care. Together, we’ll examine several of the passages often at the center of cultural and theological conflict and learn how to approach them thoughtfully, historically, and theologically.
Colby Martin offers an accessible and compelling framework for reading the Bible that goes beyond “literal vs. not literal,” helping us understand what these texts meant in their original context, for our time, and how the church has interpreted them across time.
We are learning to read the bible well, not "throwing it out".
The workshop will include:
*Teaching on key passages and how they’ve been interpreted across history
*Time for Q&A after each session
*Access to online courses for attendees
*If you're a leader at another church, you'll get content adaptable for your church or community
Whether you’re skeptical, curious, deconstructing, or trying to lead others through difficult conversations, you’re welcome here.
