Sculptural Storytelling: Assemblage Inspired by Louise Nevelson
Discover the expressive power of assemblage sculpture inspired by the iconic Louise Nevelson (1899–1988), known for her dramatic monochromatic wooden constructions. In this workshop, you’ll learn to transform found objects—beach treasures, street discoveries, cast-offs, and even forgotten items from your closet— not limited to 3D objects, the sky is the limit, into a compelling personal 3D narrative. (No makeup dates)
- Thursday, September 25 | 2pm - 4:30pm
- Friday, September 26 | 2pm - 4:30pm
What story will your sculpture tell? Whether it's about your family, career, memories, or dreams, this process offers a powerful and personal way to speak through materials.
We’ll explore sculptural techniques, including nailing, stapling, wire wrapping, threading, cold connections, chemical adhesives like Liquid Nails, and monochromatic painting. You’ll also consider structure: will your piece be a freestanding form or a wall-mounted relief? For wall reliefs, we'll emphasize the importance of the organizing box unit.
This workshop is designed as the beginning of your sculpture journey. Completion will depend on the complexity of your vision and the number of components you incorporate. All levels welcome.
Needed - The box for the wall relief is the most essential unit to organize all your pieces. This workshop is designed to help you start and finish a sculpture, depending on its intricacies.
Bring your treasures and found objects to begin constructing a story only you can tell.
