MIXED MEDIA PORTRAITS in the STREET ART STYLE

Led by Janie Reisler

$120 (includes a materials fee)

In this workshop, attendees will focus on creating a self portrait or portrait, using mixed media elements and inspired by the Street Art style. Today it is common to see portraits in the form of murals and outdoor art, whether the artist is paying tribute to someone, or simply creating a striking image. This workshop will reference some examples that current street artists and muralists are creating today.

We will demonstrate many techniques that street artists use today in their work, specifically inspired by a few example artists. Students will be learning about a handful of muralists as well as their drawing techniques to draw inspiration from their work.

The techniques include:

  • Proper collage technique
  • Gold leaf application
  • Photo transfers with gel medium
  • Graffiti typography
  • A brief history of the street art style
    * Art featured in the cover photo is by artist DAIN
