About this Event

In our every day lives how do we choose to keep or discard the physical pieces that are often considered mundane or of no value? Who decides what has value? In the wilderness hikers look for cairns to point the way forward on the path. This workshop takes the pieces of our daily lives that seem insignificant or meaningless and asks, ‘what if they were part of our way forward?’ How can we memorialize the simple objects of our past, honor where we’ve been, and transform them as we move forward?

Participants are asked to bring discarded clothes, fabric or personal papers to transform. These fabric pieces will be cut and sewn to include whatever “filling” is meaningful to you. This could be as simple as a stack of old hospital bills or small rocks gathered by ones you love. Please bring a needle and thread if you have one. Additional fabric and hand sewing supplies will be provided.

There will be time for quiet reflection during this workshop and group sharing will also be part of our time, but is always optional as participants feel comfortable.

Tickets are available on a sliding scale from $0-$20, and ticket sales will help cover the cost of materials. Please pay what feels comfortable to you.

This workshop is presented in conjunction with And Also Wide: Artist/Mother Lines, a group exhibition presented by the Flock Artist Collective. More information about the exhibition at BrewHouseArts.com.
