Workshop led by Professor Simone Celine Marshall
Uncover the secrets of medieval illuminators!
Learn how to apply raised gold leaf to a manuscript page and use paint to create your own historiated initial. This is a one-hour hands-on introductory workshop with no prior experience necessary.
Suitable for ages 12 and up, all participants under 14 must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver for the duration of the session.
Simone Celine Marshall is Professor of English and Head of the School of Arts at the University of Otago. Her research includes medieval poetry and the works of Geoffrey Chaucer, as well as hands-on research into medieval calligraphy, manuscript making, and bookbinding.
This workshop is presented in support of the exhibition Paradise of Imagination: Medieval & Modern Encounters.
2pm – 3pm, Saturday 18 October
