About this Event
Workshop for Blind and Visually Impaired Students: Accessible Data Analysis with R
How can blind and visually impaired students work with data, code, graphs, and statistical analyses? What tools and workflows are available? How can screen readers, accessible software, and structured outputs be used to support quantitative learning?
Join Dr Jonathan Godfrey, creator of the BrailleR package and the first blind person to gain full-time employment as a lecturer in Statistics, for a practical, interactive two-hour workshop on accessible approaches to quantitative learning in R/RStudio.
The workshop will begin by exploring the needs and experiences of participants before demonstrating a range of tools, workflows, and strategies that can be used when studying in the sciences, mathematics and statistics, and other quantitative subjects. Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop with WiFi so they can follow along and explore the approaches discussed.
The workshop is intended for blind and visually impaired undergraduate and post-graduate students from local universities wishing to better understand accessible approaches to quantitative learning.
A staff member will be stationed outside the building 15 minutes before the workshop to guide attendees to the workshop room if required.
