Discussions on safety protocols for seaweed farming: to ensure safety for food products, no harm to the environment and wellbeing of workers
About this Event

Dear all,

Your knowledge and experience from within the seaweed industry are very valuable to us and we would like you to join our discussion on safety protocols to help us revise, refine and adjust those protocols. Are they feasible? Are they missing something? What would give them more value or make them more useful?

As part of the Safe Seaweed by Design project, we studied the food safety, environmental safety and occupational health and safety of the seaweed sector with the goal of developing guiding protocols aimed at producing safe seaweed for food and keeping the ecosystem and workers safe and healthy. During the last 1.5 years, we studied the hazards thoroughly and tested the protocols on a seaweed farm. We found various preventative and mitigative measures, as well as choices to be made to monitor hazards, or before all: to choose the right site.

You, working in the seaweed industry, would be the main stakeholders who could benefit from those protocols. We hope to contribute to making this growing industry safer and provide guidance on reoccurring questions and hazards every seaweed farm faces.

Hybrid option: For all those who cannot participate in person, we will share a link and try to integrate the online participants as much as possible.

We chose this workshop to be a pre-event for the Seagriculture conference. We hope to make traveling and attending both events easier for you. If you haven't already done so, please don't forget to register for the conference as well. Thanks to our collaboration with the conference, you are welcome to use this discount code (15% - conference ticket) for the conference registration : SE22WUR
