Workshop: Exploring Red Nose Clown
About this Event
Workshop Description: What is clown? By the end of our two hours together, you’ll have a better answer to that question. This is an on-your-feet-doing-stuff workshop that will investigate why stupidity is a superpower, exercise your atrophied play muscle, and emphasize the importance of presence and breath. Through collaborative games, participants will explore their playful, spontaneous, and authentic selves. The workshop is designed to encourage creativity while offering a safe space to experiment, fail, and find joy in the ridiculous.
Workshop Length: 2 hours
Prerequisite: All experience levels, including no experience with clown, are welcome.
What Should I Bring? Please wear comfy clothes and closed-toe shoes fit for movement. Bring a notebook and pen/pencil for taking notes. Bring a full water bottle (There is no water fountain on site).
Please read our and before signing up for a class or workshop.
About the Instructor: Katie Rebich (they/she/he) is a clown, teacher, and physical theater artist based in Durham, NC. Their work lives in the world of contemporary clowning, where play, vulnerability, and the frequent spectacular failure create a connection between performer and audience.
Katie trained at Aloft Circus Arts (Chicago, IL) in the Full-Time Training Program, specializing in rope ladder and stilt dance. They have studied clown with Dody DiSanto, Giovanni Fusetti, Spymonkey, and more. Katie is also co-artistic director of StoryUp!, Durham’s aerial storytelling and physical theatre company. Keep your peepers peeled for the debut of their solo clown show, “Chip Chip Hooray!” at the 2027 Durham Fringe Festival.
