Turn up the heat and let your creativity flow!Join us as we step into the ancient world of encaustic painting. This art form dates back over 2,000 years. It was first used by the Greeks to paint warships, making them water and bug proof. Egyptians then began using encaustic to create large mummy portraits.
Discover how molten beeswax, Damar resin and oil colors can transform your work and creative process.
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the basics of working with heated wax on a wood surface, fusing layers, embedding materials, and building rich texture and depth. Explore how to incorporate collage elements, mark-making, and other techniques to create pieces that feel both personal and expressive.
This is a playful, experimental class with no prior art experience needed. Come ready to explore this unique painting method and let the unexpected happen!
Participants will leave with at least four finished encaustic pieces on wood.
Saturday, May 30 • 11am-2pm
