Led by Juan Sebastian Restrepo

This workshop is best for Beginner and Intermediate participants
Contour line drawing is a crucial technique for depicting three-dimensional forms on a flat surface.
The "Edge of Line" workshop is designed to immerse participants in this technique, focusing on four dynamic methods: Cross-Contour, Modified Line, Blind Contour, and Continuous Contour Drawing. Each method offers unique insights into creating depth and texture, transforming simple lines into expressive elements of art!
The workshop begins by introducing the concept of contour lines and their role in rendering threedimensionality.
Participants then engage in hands-on practice with each technique:
- Cross-Contour Line Drawing: This technique involves drawing lines that trace the surface of an object, adding volume and depth. Participants practice with provided objects to understand how these lines mapthree-dimensional space.
- Modified Line Drawing: Here, participants explore varying line thickness and pressure to suggest different textures and depths. This method demonstrates how line quality can influence the perception of form.
- Blind Contour Line Drawing: By drawing without looking at the paper, participants enhance their observational skills and hand-eye coordination. This technique emphasizes capturing the essence of the subject through unfiltered lines.
- Continuous Contour Line Drawing: Participants use a single, unbroken line to depict the fluidity and flow of their subject. This method highlights how continuous lines can unify and emphasize form.
After practicing these techniques, participants reflect on their experiences and discuss their insights. The workshop concludes with a final project where participants apply the learned methods to create a comprehensive drawing of a chosen object or scene. A "gallery" walk allows for sharing work and providing feedback, reinforcing learning and celebrating diverse interpretations.
Overall, the "Edge of Line" workshop equips participants with the skills to transform contour lines into powerful tools for depicting three-dimensional forms, enhancing their artistic expression and technical proficiency in a fun environment!
