Class Description: This is an open-level contemporary dance class that will begin with a follow-along warm up and move into phrase work (potentially including some floorwork). No matter what happens, it will be an hour and fifteen minute dance party seeking to inspire and challenge, set to a diverse soundscape. The ultimate goal is to enjoy ourselves, muddle through, get messy, figure shit out and sweat together in a supportive community of movers.
ABOUT BLiPSWiTCH: BLiPSWiTCH is an Austin, Texas project-based, site-specific-focused dance company established in 2015 as an inclusive platform to unite artists in creation, unbound by individual mediums, to share in the cultivation of a more multifaceted arts community. Founded and co-directed by Taryn Lavery and Alex Pruitt, and with the help of countless collaborators, they have produced nine evening length works, an original collaborative series— “Offbeat”— currently upon its 11th installment, six long-form movement installations, two short films, one four-part documentary (premiered at SXSW 2024), many short-form pieces, and set commissioned choreography for local performance companies, music festivals, films, and music videos. BLiPSWiTCH offers the most financially accessible ongoing weekly contemporary dance class for working dancers in Austin-- taught by Alex-- and in 2023, the company received a Best of Austin Critics Award for “Best Choreography of Human Kinesis”. Whether in concrete warehouses, bike shops, historic homes or big grassy fields, on merry-go-rounds, wooden plank platforms, water-filled troughs or storage scaffolding, BLiPSWiTCH is always interested in amplifying the complexity of location.
