About this Event
As part of the exhibition Suzhou Embroidery: The Awakening of a 1000-Year Tradition, a special Suzhou Embroidery Craft Workshop will take place at the Royal Geographical Society.
The workshop will be led by renowned Suzhou embroidery masters Yao Huifen and Yao Huiqin — both China Arts and Crafts Masters and national-level representative inheritors of Suzhou embroidery as an Intangible Cultural Heritage — together with next-generation embroidery artisan Yu Junyao.
Participants will begin with a guided visit of the exhibition, learning about the history, craftsmanship, and distinctive techniques of Suzhou embroidery. Following the tour, the artists will introduce the fundamental stitches and provide hands-on guidance.
Participants will then have the opportunity to experience the craft of Suzhou embroidery firsthand and create a small embroidered piece of their own.
The workshop will take place in two sessions:
• Session 1: 13:00–14:30
• Session 2: 15:30–16:00
(15 participants per session)
All materials will be provided. The workshop is free to attend, but booking via Eventbrite is required as places are limited, so early booking is recommended.
