Join us at the Beth Chatto Meanwhile Garden in Colchester, Co1 1JH, on Saturday 13 June, 10am–12pm, for a free hands-on workshop exploring how dead hedges can transform garden waste into thriving wildlife habitat.
Meanwhile gardener David and Jonathan from Bottengoms will demonstrate how to build a dead hedge using prunings gathered from the site.
Dead hedges turn garden waste into habitat, compost, shelter, and food for urban ecosystems.
Beth Chatto’s head gardener Åsa and ecologist Chris Gibson will also be on hand to talk about the ecological benefits of compost, deadwood, and habitat creation in urban spaces.
Susie Jenkins from Cobnuts Co-operative, who’s have been making cob nature sculptures in community spaces since 2018 will also be there running a workshop.
This is a free drop-in workshop - come and help build a simple, functional habitat feature, and stay for as long or as little as you like.
Learn practical skills you can easily apply in your own garden, allotment, or community space.
Please wear sturdy shoes as the site has uneven ground, and bring gardening gloves if you have them. All other materials will be provided.
Children are welcome but must be supervised.
We hope to see you there.
