Explore cinematic influences through the utilisation of film posters as a source material for expanded analogue collage, with resident artist Nina Fraser.
Observing how the printed image acts as a channel of communication, the analogue practice of collage can act as an inquiry into how these systems are structured and interpreted, and how they shape our thoughts and actions. The movie poster is a very specific type of graphic work that encorporates both static and moving imagery, suggesting something much larger than what it demonstrates at first glance. It is also a place of representation and reinvention of illusion and fantasy. Working with multiple versions of the same image allowed chances to reconstruct, reflecting the human urge to modify and correct.
As we pull apart various movie posters, disecting the images within them, we can explore new forms, stories and narratives. Working in a size around A2 - A1, you will learn methods and techniques of translating the collage process to a larger scale, taking home with you a new large scale poster sized work (poster tubes provided!)
Collage Working Club (CWC) is a weekly open workspace for artists working in the medium of paper. Organised in the format of alternate ‘drop in’ sessions and workshops masterclasses, it has both a regular facilitator, whilst also involving the artist community in the sharing of knowledge and skills. Providing materials, education and connections is the primary aim of CWC, and it will do this through the interdisciplinary art of collage as both an art form and a tool for personal growth.
