About this Event
Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced writer curious about crime fiction, this friendly, practical workshop offers an engaging introduction to the genre. Led by experienced crime writer Louise Sharland, the session explores the core building blocks of compelling crime stories: what defines the genre, how to shape a gripping plot, and how to create tension, jeopardy, and momentum that keep readers turning the pages. You’ll also look at characterisation, detectives, criminals, victims, and suspects, and how setting can heighten atmosphere and stakes, from quiet streets to dangerous interiors. Through discussion, examples, and short writing exercises, participants will leave with new tools, fresh ideas, and the confidence to begin, or deepen their own crime writing journey. No prior experience required.
