Workshop A – The Art of Light: Foundations of Studio Lighting (3 hours)
About this Event
Spend a fun, hands-on Saturday at our South Melbourne studio learning how to see and shape light like a pro. Whether you're picking up a camera for the first time or refining your existing skills, you'll leave with new techniques, real portfolio shots, and a deeper understanding of what separates a snapshot from a striking portrait.
What you'll do:
- Three hours of theory, live demo, and hands-on shooting — taught in a relaxed, no-jargon style.
- Learn how the quality of light (soft, hard, directional, diffused) shapes mood, emotion, and storytelling.
- Master the fundamentals of balancing brightness, shadow and depth using power, distance and falloff.
- Discover how small changes in angle, modifier and texture completely transform a portrait.
- Work directly with a professional model — experiment, get coached, and build real portfolio-grade images you can take home.
- Try a range of creative lighting setups, from classic beauty to dramatic editorial.
- Enjoy fresh coffee, tea and a friendly studio atmosphere throughout the session.
What you'll leave with:
- The confidence to design intentional, professional-looking lighting setups.
- Your own portrait images of a working model — shot by you.
- An exclusive ongoing discount on future workshops and studio hire at Crown Visual Studio.
Small group sizes for personalised guidance. Suitable for both enthusiastic beginners and experienced photographers.
