Working with Veterans: Understanding Veteran Culture

This comprehensive training session is designed to equip behavioral health professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively support and engage with veterans. By understanding veteran culture and recognizing the unique challenges faced by this population, participants will be better prepared to address the critical issue of veteran suicide prevention.

Objectives:

1. Enhance Cultural Competency:
2. • Gain a deep understanding of veteran culture, including the values, experiences, and challenges unique to those who have served in the military.
   • Learn to build trust and rapport with veterans by acknowledging and respecting their backgrounds and service.
3. Identify Risk Factors:
4. • Recognize the specific risk factors associated with veteran suicide, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injuries (TBI), and other service-related mental health issues.
   • Understand the impact of military culture on mental health and the barriers veterans may face in seeking help.
