&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Working with Multilingual Learners&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt; &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;This workshop is designed to provide GGC faculty and staff with a framework for understanding who the multilingual students on our campus are, which campus resources are available for their support, and which pedagogical strategies best develop their academic skills.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt; &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this workshop, participants should be able to:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Identify various types of multilingual learners at GGC and their unique challenges,&lt;/li&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Describe campus programs that support multilingual students,&lt;/li&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Identify pedagogical strategies to assist multilingual students in reading, writing, and understanding academic integrity.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Facilitators:&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Dr. Susan Bleyle - Assistant Professor of English&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt; &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Dr. Bleyle has been teaching English as a Second Language and English for Academic Purposes in both adult education and higher education contexts for more than 20 years. She previously taught at DeKalb Technical College, The International Rescue Committee, The Latin American Association, Georgia State University and Georgia Perimeter College before joining the faculty of Georgia Gwinnett College in 2007. Bleyle has a bachelor’s degree in Russian from Oberlin College, a master's degree in applied linguistics from Georgia State University, and a Ph.D. in language and literacy education from the University of Georgia. Her professional interests include the academic literacy development of language minority students in higher education, poetry writing in the second language classroom, the use of automated essay-scoring in writing courses. An avid language learner herself, Dr. Bleyle enjoys speaking German, Spanish, Russian and Bosnian.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Dr. Semire Dikli - Associate Professor of English&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt; &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Dr. Semire Dikli received her Ph.D. in multilingual-multicultural education at Florida State University. She has taught English for academic purposes (EAP) and other English as a second/foreign language (ESL/EFL) related courses both in the U.S. and in Turkey for several years. Dikli also worked with the Florida Department of Education and provided assistance to school districts in Florida in implementing English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) programs in public schools. Her research interests include writing assessment and technology.
