About this Event
Working the Middle Ground: Intermediate Play Therapy Approaches for Child with Trilby Banks, LMFT/S, RPT
Middle childhood is a rich and often complex developmental stage—full of expanding emotions, growing identities, and new social challenges. Although play remains a child’s language well into the middle childhood years, how they use play evolves. This CEU offers a deep dive into evidence-informed Play Therapy approaches designed specifically for school-age children. Attendees will explore the developmental tasks unique to middle childhood, and leave with practical interventions they can use immediately with children ages 6–12
OBJECTIVES:
- Describe developmental milestones, common presenting concerns, and contextual stressors of children ages 6–12, and explain how these factors guide Play Therapy treatment planning during middle childhood.
- Demonstrate the clinical application of Play Therapy interventions for children ages 6–12 by selecting and implementing developmentally appropriate strategies to support emotional regulation, identity development, and growth mindset.
- Apply ethical decision-making principles to Play Therapy with children ages 6–12, including determining appropriate caregiver involvement, addressing barriers to engagement, and completing professional Play Therapy documentation.
