About this Event

"Anytime we do the work of love, we end the work of domination." ~bell hooks

Come sing songs of resilience, wisdom, and tenderness with your community. Come just as you are and experience a flow of interactive singing led by experienced songleader Lyndsey Scott, song mama of

After a simple vocal and body warm-up, we'll learn songs through call-and-echo repetition. Rounds and layers will add complexity for those who want it -- before you know it, we'll be making beauty! Singing will be interspersed with facilitated sharing & opportunities to move.

ALL VOICES WELCOME! Whether you love to sing, only ever sing in the shower, or were told "you shouldn't sing" - you are welcome and valued here. This way of being is an antidote to perfectionism --- we practice belonging and grow our bandwidth for play, grief, and pleasure. Science says that when we sing together, our heartbeats sync up and our vagus nerves purr. You'll leave feeling more open and relaxed, with a pocket full of positive songs to just.keep.singing. ꩜

For this east coast tour, Lyndsey is "going visiting" from North Carolina to Massachusetts on the way to Blessfest in celebration of her soon coming release, Work of Love, a 3-song EP catalyzing the capacity of our hearts to alchemize pain into power through radical forgiveness and willingness to Feel.

VENUE:
Pierce Hall @ All Souls Unitarian Church

1500 Harvard St NW, Washington, DC 20009

@ PARKING

All Souls does NOT have a parking lot. During the week, street parking is extremely limited. The best option is to park is the paid DC USA Parking Garage on Irving St NW beneath the Target ($12 for the day). We are also very close to the Yellow and Green metro lines at the Columbia Heights Metro station.

Advance tickets required to support song choice preparation & communications - thanks for supporting your traveling song leader in this way!

♥︎ Are kids welcome? This event is aimed towards adults and will potentially include colorful language, songs with the F bomb, stories of thriving after trauma, welcome for grief, etc. Children are very beloved and welcome insofar as parents are ok with that context AND if the youngs ones are either eager to participate or able to play quietly to the side and hold silence when stories are told --- it's very hard on the voice to project over ambient noise. Thank you for care and discernment in this :)

♥︎ Sliding scale: $20-45

Thanks for finding the sweet spot that's both generous & affordable for you!

I use a wide sliding scale model to allow those with more resource to 'pay it forward' for those with less resource.

(( I f this range is not accessible, please reach out to me. No one turned away for lack of funds. ))

Our tithe for this gathering goes to GREAT PLAINS ACTION SOCIETY in Iowa City (my home place) who is building an incredible Resilience Hub.
