About this Event
In this work-in-progress series, Filzah Belal will present a part of her doctoral research where she will discuss how states use digital surveillance to dismantle social movements on the Internet. Her presentation will focus on the use of counter-terrorism laws as a tool to further this objective. The counter-terrorism provisions may be used against multiple individuals, but the legal punishments that are inflicted on them create a chilling effect on entire campaigns. These elements in the intersection of constitutional rights, surveillance and counter-terrorism laws will be discussed in this edition of the works-in-progress workshops.
Free. All welcome, registration required.
