Featured Films

A Watchmakers Wish - by Sonny Nwachukwu

A Watchmakers Wish is a short film exploring the impact of societal language on people who stammer.

The Goodstock - by Ray Young

Goodstock Centre for Rejuvenation - comic film piece from the perspective of the ‘Goodstock Centre for Rejuvenation’ which shines a light on the ridiculous nature by which eugenics stratified people. Firmly rooted in UCL, this film gives a platform to an anonymous truth teller through an in-depth and at times disturbing exploration of Francis Galton, the father of the eugenics movement.

Men of Science - by Lasana Shabazz

Men of Science addresses the significance of the knowledge created in these walls, corridors and classrooms from Galton’s pseudoscience and how it directly contributed to UCL as an institution. The film uncovers the effect of Galton’s legacy both past and present.

PostHuman - by Rachel Gadsden
Rachel’s ‘live-painting’ performance piece is a deeply personal exploration of chronic health conditions and choice at end of life. This multi-media pieces combines painting, performance and live music to invite the audience to explore questions of dignity and whose lives we value.
Dog Whistle - by Veronica McKenzie
Veronica was inspired by Galton’s invention of the dog whistle and it’s modern day connotation. She is developing two film works designed to play side by side simultaneously sharing a narrative from two different perspectives and which aim to alter the viewers perspective dependent on the order in which they are watched.

Disrupting the Legacy: Jazz, Identity, and the Myths of Eugenics - by The Oracle Collective

Blending dialogue with improvised music of diasporic origin, the piece features prominent and emerging voices including Julian Joseph, Hilary Juma, EERF EVIL and Nualoe. All are positioned at the intersection of creativity, education, activism and public discourse. Through their stories and perspectives, the project unpacks how eugenics’ legacy still reverberates across institutions, media and cultural spaces.
