WORDS IN CHALK: Essex Writers House 2024

Part of the annual Essex Writers House 'WORDS IN CHALK' a not-for-profit spoken word event that brings out of town award winning poetic guests, live music and an open mic opportinities for local poetry performers.

The event hosted at Metal Culture Southend found in the beautiful location of Chalkwell Parks Gardens with doors opening 6.30pm with performances ending at 9.30pm. [All tickets sales go to covering the venue and featuring performers].

Hosting will be local poet HOLLIE DEE, one of the most joyful and skilled performer Essex has to offer and recently 3rd in a National Slam poetry competition.

Headlining this years event will be the current Genesis Grand Slam Champion JAKE NATHAN. Jake, also an Essex local, is a brilliant combination of wit, sensivity and next level wordsmith'ary.

Addtionally this year, we have added a musical section brought you by the majestic DARYL TATTOO, an exceptional local musician bringing a 20 minute set of eclectic mix of sumptuous jazz & experimental guitar artistry.

We have two excellent featuring artists, in ANNALIESE BROUGHTON (McLellan Poetry Prize winner) & ANNA SINSKI (Co-Founder of Mind Over Matter & Published poet).

Attendees will have the chance to perform too! Hollie will draw 6 names from a hat and those people will get the chance to come up and perform a poem of their own alongside our features. Slots will be limited to 5 minutes, one of these performers will be selected by our headliner to feature next time round.
