It always struck me as a curious expression and one my mother always used when she caught me in a moment of idle day-dreaming, a gift I own to this day: woolgathering. Maybe today, in gathering wool I am simply in search of lost time, yearning, like pulling something from a river and hoping that what comes up is not some kind of nuisance but sleek and beautiful.
