Woody Guthrie Singalong with Yellow Jack and Friends

Buffalo Music Coalition and Yellow Jack present a night of Woody Guthrie songs featuring some of Western New York’s finest folk musicians.
The night will feature songs written or performed by Woody Guthrie, the restless American poet, troubadour and chronicler. His music gave voice to working people, wanderers, the downtrodden and just ordinary Americans trying to make their way through hard times. More than 80 years later, the songs remain funny, angry, stubborn, compassionate and all-too-relevant.
Roots rockers Yellow Jack will open and close the night with an expanded lineup featuring the Ribbon of Highway Singers: Chris Jones (Skiffle Minstrels), Captain Tom (Captain Tom & the Hooligans), Tony Petrocelli (Talking Dead Heads) and Kathryn Koch (The Healing Committee).
The evening will also include sets of Guthrie songs from Sally Schaefer and Tyler Bagwell (The Travesties), Captain Tom (Captain Tom & the Hooligans) and Tyler Westcott (Folkfaces).
Songs will include “Pastures of Plenty,” “Do Re Mi,” “Hard Traveling,” “Deportee,” “This Land Is Your Land,” “Union Maid” and “So Long, It’s Been Good to Know Ya,” along with selections from the rougher and stranger corners of Guthrie’s vast songbook.
And yes—it’s a singalong. Lyrics will be posted at yellowjackmusic.com/woody ahead of the concert so audience members can learn the songs, refresh their memories or simply get the choruses under their belts. Printed lyric sheets will also be available at the show.
