This class will cover foundational woodworking skills such as
- wood selection
- reading plans
- measuring and cutting techniques
- joinery skills
- hand tool techniques
You'll receive training and get hands-on practice on power tools including:
- table saw
- bandsaw
- miter saw
- router
- drills/drivers
- belt sander
ALL skill levels are welcome! Making an Adirondack chair is a complex project, so we've set aside three whole days to walk you through every step of the process.
Instruction will focus on shop safety and basic woodworking techniques. More advanced instruction can be provided as time allows.
This class provides all necessary tools, materials and safety equipment.
Instructed by Boat Shop Manager Cori (she/her) who joined the Foss Waterway Seaport in 2023. She loves sharing woodworking with others (especially through family boatbuilding classes) and is always dreaming up new projects to get people out on the water. Cori has been carving since childhood and apprenticed on her first wooden boat build at 11 years old. A Mainer and former outdoor educator, she now shares her passion for building, sailing, and crafting with students of all ages.
