About this Event
Making a box is the fundamental woodworker's project. A basic box can be small and simple like a keepsake box, a tissue box, a breadbox, or it can be the basis of a cabinet, a coffee table or a set of shelves.
In this workshop, you take some pre-machined pieces of timber, cut them to size by hand, create traditional rebated joints, fit the base and fit the lid. You use basic hand tools that you can buy at any hardware store and use for many future projects.
In the process you learn how to choose the right timber, how to cut, plane and sand for the best results and how to make and apply wonderful, traditional, eco-friendly finishes.
You go home with a personalised wooden box that you can use or give as a gift for a loved one. You also go home with the confidence to take what you have learnt to the next level!
Materials
We will be using a hand saw, a mallet and chisel, some clamps, and traditional shellac. These will be supplied, but if you have your own tools, feel free to bring them.
You could wear old clothes, or bring an apron, because things could get messy.
Please note that enrolments for this workshop will close on the 9 August.
