ABOUT THIS WORK
Our Woodland Wonders program offers a holistic approach to engaging families with nature creating together a woodland garden. This is a unique and rewarding experience where everyone can share and learn from one another. To start, consider the natural habitat of woodland plants, which thrive in shaded areas with well-rotted organic matter and mulch. By combining practical gardening activities with the calming practice of forest bathing, families can develop a deeper appreciation for the natural world and foster lifelong environmental stewardship.
Intention:
1. Create a space for learning, skill development, skill sharing, and exchanging experiences within the group and environment.
2 Highlighting the importance of plants, their habitats and ecosystems.
2. Foster a connection between families and nature.
3. Promote relaxation and mindfulness through forest bathing.
Some of the activities included:
* Guided tour of the woodland.
* Families learn about native plants of their own environment and their roles in the ecosystem.
* Planting session: Parents and children plant seedlings and learn about plant care.
* Picnic in a designated area with natural seating.
* Simple breathing exercises to wake up the body.
* Introduction to the concept of forest bathing (shinrin-yoku).
* Slow, mindful walk through the forest.
* Focus on sensory experiences: sights, sounds, smells, and touch.
* Periods of silence to absorb the natural surroundings.
* Collect natural materials during walks.
* Create simple crafts like leaf rubbings, nature journals, or fairy houses.
* Discussion on the importance of nature conservation and sustainable practices.
Note: Please wear outdoors closed footwear and clothing. Layers are recommended. Bring a picnic and water. Tea will be provided.
