Wooden Window Restoration Workshop

Do you struggle to open or close your home or office’s wooden windows? Would you like to learn how to fix a cracked pane, peeling paint, or broken glazing? Do you want to keep your old windows but learn how to make them last another 100 years while remaining energy efficient? This beginner workshop is designed for those with little to no experience with wooden window repair and an interest in learning more.

Over two days, you’ll learn how to assess and repair wooden windows under the guidance of a skilled instructor. Participants will gain an understanding of how windows have been constructed in Rhode Island, common problems such windows face, and what tools, products, and techniques can be used to repair them to last another century.

Attire: Wear closed-toed shoes and clothes you’re comfortable getting dirty. Tools will be provided.

What to bring: a window to work on and a flexible 1-inch putty knife. We will have used back-up putty knives but bringing your own is preferable!

The workshop instructor is Noel Sanchez, a restoration carpenter who is president and founder of Casa Buena Builders. Sanchez has over thirty years of experience in the construction business and his work has twice been recognized in the Rhody Awards for Historical Preservation. Sanchez is the lead instructor of PPS’s Building Works program, which includes weekend and evening workshops as well as trades training intensives in the historic building trades.
