The broad goal for this course is to help students cultivate the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary to start and troubleshoot through intermediate woodshop projects.The course includes an opportunity to be checked out on fundamental woodshop machines: Planer, Jointer, Router, and Drum Sander.
This course will give students hands-on experience with woodshop power tools and machines. Students will work on a project and create a picture frame.
At the end of the course, students will be able to:
-Learn, have fun, and safely create projects in the woodshop, while also managing expectations
-Square a rough sawn or reclaimed piece of wood with the joiner and planer
-Set up and use a router to finish an edge
-Use a jig on the table saw to create a specialized cut (Wood insert - 45-degree jig on table saw)
-Use the biscuit joiner to add strength to a wood joint
-Create finer finish miter joints
-Select and apply finishes to woods (Teak or linseed oil)
-Use appropriate tools of the Wood Shop to prepare, clean, and dimension wood to create a picture frame (potentially with reclaimed wood)
-Be a steward of the Wood Shop
-Clean up thoroughly after using the Wood Shop
Ages 12 and above. All youth under the age of 16 must be chaperoned by an adult also taking the class.
