The JB Duke Hotel, a distinctive, AAA Four Diamond hotel property located on Duke University's campus, is hosting an introductory dance class, titled “Wonders of the Waltz,” on Thursday, June 13 from 6-8 p.m. Led by Jordan Jewell of Move With Grace Ballroom, the dance class will whisk guests into the world of the elegant Waltz – the first ballroom style in history to feature an embrace between two dancers. Known for its smooth, gliding movements and romantic ambiance, the waltz transitions dancers about the floor to clear, memorable tunes spanning classical and contemporary genres of music. Adding to the immersive experience, guests will then venture to the JB Duke’s chic Lobby Lounge to enjoy an intimate Q&A session to learn about the cultural context and origins of the dance style they just mastered. The imaginative culinary team will also serve a complimentary sample of a specialty cocktail inspired by the unique culture and flavor profiles of the time period.
The dance class and Q&A experience is priced at $25, and advanced registration is required by completing the following form: https://form.jotform.com/241065736455156. Beginners are welcome, and dancers may register alone or as a couple (please complete a separate registration form for each participant).
Jewell, the owner of Durham-based Move With Grace Ballroom, joined the competitive ballroom circuit shortly after he began dancing at the age of 17. After competing for Purdue University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for four years, he transitioned into the world of teaching. Throughout his professional journey, Jordan has trained with world-renowned ballroom dancers as a professional instructor and won numerous awards on the competitive dance floor.
The "Wonders of the Waltz” dance class is part of the “Step Into Summer” Dance Series – a weekly program hosted by the JB Duke and the neighboring Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club inviting guests to journey back in time and experience the magic of social dance. Interested participants can explore the additional class offerings via the registration link above, including “Rhythms of the Rumba,” “Tango for Two” and “Swing in Style.”
